What is Medicare Part D?

Medicare Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs, including 100% of many recommended vaccines. You can obtain this coverage by enrolling in a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) alongside Original Medicare or through a Medicare Advantage Plan that includes prescription drug coverage. These plans are managed by private insurance companies and regulated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

It’s important to note that the federal government requires all eligible Medicare recipients to secure "creditable" prescription drug coverage within 63 days of becoming eligible for Medicare. Otherwise, a federal penalty will be added to their premium if they choose to enroll in a Part D plan later.
